
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haïti, Wesley Louissaint (aka Wesli) built his first guitar out of an old NGO provided oil can and nylon fishing line when he was just eight years old. Raised in a household of seven children where singing was a part of everyday life, music soon became second nature to him and became his best bet at escaping his miserable surroundings.
In 2001, he made Montreal his home. From the moment he arrived, he worked closely with the Productions Nuits d’Afrique team and shared the stage with such famous names in African music as: Monique Seka, King Mensah, Amadou Sodia, Sekouba Bambino, Hamid Bouchnak and others. Working as a producer and composer on several other projects, Wesli knew how to transform his many enriching experiences into something that would allow him make him a name for himself that befit his talents as a solo artist.
He would be the 2009-2010 winner of the Radio-Canada Musique prize for “Revelation of the Year” and Canadian Folk Music Award nominee for “Best Solo World Music Album”. At the end of 2011, Wesli, a committed artist whose music spans the globe, launched his second album, Liberté dans le noir which features famous artists such as: Mes Aïeux, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Radio Radio and Paul Cargnello.
