Over the years, Erene has served as chair of the board of the Union United Church and as a member of the executive of the Montreal Presbytery. She also serves on the bursary committee of the United Church of Canada and on the executive of the Antigua and Barbuda Association. In addition, she has played a vital role at the Quebec Provincial Association of Retired School Educators, serving for six years as program director. In 1999, Erene received the Jackie Robinson Award from the Montreal Association of Black Business Persons and Professionals. In 2009, her efforts were recognized by the prime minister of Antigua, earning her the Outstanding Citizenship Award for community work conducted outside that country. In 2014 she received the Mathieu Da Costa Award for exceptional volunteer contributions and was the first recipient named CJAD Hero of the Month. As a Director of the Chelaine du Millénaire (ACM) foundation, she continues to contribute to the advancement of the health and education of young children in Cap-Haitien.
